High
Blood Pressure and Kidneys
Kidneys and your
circulatory system depend on each other for good health. Kidneys are a pair of
regulatory organs located on either side of your back. Their main function is
to act as a filter system that removes waste products and excess fluid from the
body. The kidneys help filter extra fluids
and wastes from blood, and they
use a lot of blood vessels to do so. When the blood vessels get damaged, the
nephrons that filter our blood do not receive the oxygen and nutrients they
need to function. This is why Hypertension (High Blood Pressure) is the 2nd
leading cause of Renal failure. Uncontrolled
high blood pressure may cause arteries around the kidneys to narrow, weaken or
harden. These damaged arteries are not able to deliver enough blood to the
kidney tissue.
The nephrons in the
kidneys are supplied with a vast network of blood vessels and high volumes of
blood flow through them. Kidneys have small finger-like nephrons that filter
blood. Each nephron receives its blood supply through tiny hair like
capillaries, the smallest of blood vessels..
Healthy kidneys produce
a hormone called aldosterone to help the body regulate blood pressure. Kidney
damage and uncontrolled high blood pressure each contribute to a negative
spiral. The more the arteries become blocked and stop functioning, the kidneys
eventually fail to function.
On behalf of the
Organizing Committee, we extend a warm welcome to all of the distinguished
speakers and participants of the 15th
International Conference on Nephrology and Hypertension which is
scheduled to be held during July 23-24, 2018, in the fantastic Kuala Lumpur is
